NKY EMS Weekend
Has been canceled permanently, please see your department EMS Coordinator or Training Officer for CEU opportunities.
History
In 1995 the Kenton County Fire Chiefs Association formed an EMS committee to address the continuing education of the members of Kenton County Departments. This committee noticed that there were very few EMS instructors available in the area to provided CEU's to each department. Regional fire schools were available at the time, but most departments could afford to send personnel to these schools. With the growing number of EMT's they formed the idea of having a Continuing Education Weekend to provide basic requirements for EMT's.
In 1998 Transcare of KY began to coordinate the CEU weekend under the direction of Ed Harber the CEU weekend was still managed by the KCFCA EMS committee. Transcare was the primary provider of Advanced Life Support for Kenton County for several years. Beginning in 2010 the Independence Fire District began coordinating the Kenton County EMS weekend at the Kenton County Fire Training Center. This weekend consisted of sixteen hours of EMT education.
In 2011 this EMS weekend was moved to the Edgewood Senior Center to meet the student capacity. Since 2011 this EMS weekend has been expanded and renamed the Northern Kentucky EMS Weekend. Annually approximately 80 people attend this course which was expanded to twenty hours. Several local and state instructors have presented courses at this course.
Over the last few years we have partnered with Saint Elizabeth, Christ and University of Kentucky Hospitals to have presenters on a variety of topics which have also expanded from Basic Life Support to also include some Advanced Life Support presentations.
